After
Lorca
Released 2003
Author - Molly Gowen
Poetry
ISBN number: 1-901109-02-x
48pages.
Quality paperback.
Molly is a poet, folklorist and Visual
Artist. She was born in Youghal, Co. Cork, lived in the
U.K. from 1984 to 2000. A career in Education Training and
Managment led to a literary career that began in 1993 with
the publication of: The Caltic Tree Year - Townhouse Countryhouse
The Celtic Animal Year - Townhouse Countryhouse
Molly subsequently wrote extensively on local history and
folklore for the East Anglian Daily Times, The Irish Post
and The Suffolk Journal. 1998 brought the publication of
a further two volumes: Faries in the irish Tradition - Capall
Bann. Transmigration - Fields of Youghal. Molly regularly
performs her poetry. She has appeared several times with
both John Cooper Clark and Galway band "The Inflatable
Sideshow". Molly now lives in Galway.
Concerned variously with illustrations
and incisive comment, poetry has a habit of periodically
freezing into convention. Lorca was one of the poets who
did just that, with his startling mixed metaphors and the
fiercely sad melody of his voice. Molly Gowen is another.
She does it with a determination and verve, which is compelling.
The thrill of her work is that it is at once concrete and
metaphysical. Her vision can focus minutely, then travel
on extended journeys of the imagination before focusing
again and demanding involvement from the reader.
